No area of the world offers better fishing than the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica.
Quepos is the center of the Central Pacific region, which ranges north to south
from the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula to Drake Bay. It is known for its sails,
marlin, dorado and tuna.
The Tiger Shark's multilingual crew - you get a choice of three languages: Spanish,
English and German - is totally at home with conventional fishing methods and
flyfishing, using light or heavy tackle. All billfish are released to conserve
the population, unless you come up with a potential world record.
The region is sheltered from the wind, so snapper, roosterfish, wahoo, mackeral,
jack crevalle and monster snook populate the reefs, river mouths and estuaries year
round. Billfishing normally peaks between late December and the first of May. The
Tiger Shark can do multi-day trips to the seldom-fished Cano Island and Drake Bay
areas at the gateway to Corcovado National Park, where you might want to overnight
at one of the several excellent lodges in the region. As the sails and marlin begin
to move north, the boat will follow them to Flamingo on the coast of Guanacaste,
where Pacific blue marlin, striped marlin, sailfish, wahoo, dolphin, cubera, snapper,
yellowfin and bigeye tuna abound.
The Tiger Shark is a 31-foot Bertram Flybridge SF with 220 HP twin Detroit diesels.
It has a Bausch marlin tower, full fighting chair, Schaeffer outriggers and Penn
International rods and reels, all IGFA tackle, a live-bait-well, marine radios,
GPS, radar, depthsounder, coast guard approved safety equipment, an open cabin
marine toilet, and a 30-gallon freshwater tank.
